Fraud Alert: Be Aware of Text and Phone Scams
Scammers are finding new ways to impersonate financial institutions, and fraudulent texts and phone calls are becoming increasingly common.
Recently, a Metairie Bank customer received a text message from someone posing as the bank. After responding, the customer received a phone call requesting their debit card number, expiration date, and CVV security code.
Metairie Bank will never ask you to share your full debit card information or CVV security code over the phone in response to an unsolicited call.
Know What to Look For
Below are examples of legitimate text messages sent by Metairie Bank to help you recognize our communications.

Helpful reminders on how to exercise caution:
- Your debit card’s CVV security code is private. Never disclose it to someone who calls you unexpectedly claiming to be from your bank.
- Caller ID can be spoofed. Scammers can make calls and texts appear to come from legitimate businesses or financial institutions.
- Don’t let urgency pressure you. Scammers often create fear by claiming your account is compromised or that an unauthorized purchase needs immediate attention.
- Hang up and call back. Use the phone number on the back of your debit card or the bank’s official website.
- When in doubt, stop. A legitimate fraud concern can always be verified directly with your bank.
